How to ReplaceImage, Insert/Delete/Move pages or Merge for protected PDFs

Product:Platform:Area:Versions:
Impressario for DirectorAllHyperlinkingv2.x

Summary

In order to do any modifications to a PDF document, such as inserting, deleting, moving pages, or replacing images, the document must not be protected against modifications. If you set permissions on the document in Acrobat, these modifications are disabled.

Solution

The only way to enable these kinds of modifications is to provide the "owner" password for the document. This is the password needed to set permissions in Acrobat. If Impressario detects this password, it will allow modifications to the document.

You can provide the "owner" password when the document is opened or just before performing any of the modifications -- either type it in the Password field on the Impressario Member Options dialog box, or set it via code:

member("myPDF").Password = <theOwnerPassword>
member("myPDF").DeletePages(5,2)
member("myPDF").Password = "" -- reset the password and permissions

NOTE: If the user enters a non-owner password at runtime, your Director movie will have to keep track of that user password in order to reset permissions after a modification is performed.
